My experience with blog comment

Chapter 1. Who I am

I manage an online store and take orders of my niche products. My website started in early 2000, it was doing well during the past few years, but during the last 18 months, it has been gliding down in search engine ranking. Since I am doing well, at the beginning I did not take it seriously, until I am forced to review the reasons of the drop otherwise I won’t be able to maintain my business.

One reason is because there are more players in my niche market; it has been more competitive than it was before. The other reason is my old competitors have been learning to be smarter in search engine promotion strategy. They have done one thing or another, or many things right, therefore they site are ranked above me.

A key factor, apart from the content of the webpages, is

quality content related backlinks

Chapter 2. What I tried on link building

A. Link exchange

I have tried link exchange program before, and personally I don’t like to participate these link farms, simply because it’s already hard enough to get some visitors, I don’t want to lead them to another site.

B. Buying Text Links

Some websites provide text links on a fee basis, for example you pay $1000USD for several text links from their homepage to your page. Well, it’s too expensive, I prefer to spend my $1000USD on Google Adwords

C. Ask other websites to link back?

My content is ok, but it’s NOT so great that other websites prefer to link back, and my website is commercial website, which many webmasters prefer not linking to

D. Links back from blog comments

I have to admit that I regret not have started this strategy earlier; I found a way, (well it has been there since blog is invented, I just did not take it seriously). … back to the topic – it’s links from blog comments. I won’t explain too much about blog comments because everybody knows it

Search a related blog

In order to search a related blog, I go to Google.com, type “keyword powered by wordpress”

Then I click on the websites by the order of their ranking, I usually open several tabs, then Read the blog page, then post my comment and link

Chapter 3. Things that bothers me when I build backlinks from blog

I was happy to do it for the first 3 days, then I encountered some difficulties, and I found myself a bit lazy, and reluctant to do more comments.

  • Fill the form
  • Page Rank
  • No follow or Do follow
  • Keep track of comments

Here I will explain each of my problems that made my blog comment time miserable.

Fill the blog comment form

Every time these have to be entered into the comment form: keyword, url, email address

Since I promote each keyword, and link it to a specific webpage once at a time. I found it boring to type these things again and again, to the contrary, read people’s blog, and write the comment does not bother me too much because every blog are different, and some are quite interesting.

Check Page Rank

You know the little Google Toolbar pagerank? Since not all WebPages are created equal, at a given timeframe that you can do the blog comments, it’s better to spend time on higher PageRank websites, the higher the better. I tend to comment on PageRank 4 plus sites, unless the homepage’s Pagerank is very high. Check pagerank is bording too, sometimes once a page is opened, you have to wait 1 or 2 seconds to wait the PageRank to update (maybe this is only my problem because of Internet connection or too much things installed on my machine)

Check link No Follow or Do Follow

As I continue my adventure of blog commenting, I was told that only Do Follow blogs pass PR. Some highly related blogs such as my niche product review by customers, no matter what tags it has, I will try to get a link. However for other blogs, I have to filter these No Follow ones. Again I only have certain amount of time a day to deal with blog comments, there are a lot of business operations to deal with

“Your comments is awaiting for administrator’s approval” – keep track of comments

  • Yes you found a great blog!
  • Yes you spend time reading the blog, and wrote a great comment!
  • Yes you had your keyword and url in the blog comment form!
  • OHH, no! “Your comment is waiting for administrator’s approval”!

WordPress provide the option for administrators to approve comments before they are displayed on the blog post. When you develop links from blogs through comments, this need administrator’s approval message is the last thing you want to see. At least I want to see my comments to be posted immediately. Well you have to face the fact, right? Therefore keep track of comments is extremely important. You own yourself to know how many of your comments are approved!

The other day I was on DigitalPoints, and saw someone sells a list of HIGH PR blogs. I sent a PM to the guy, and negotiated the list for $15USD. He sent me the list of urls which are in excel sheet. Yes as he promised, some have high PRs, but they are not quite related with my business. Most blogs are music blogs, or high-tech related. Anyway, I did not ask for money back, $15USD is ok

Chapter 4. Is there a tool that can help me with blog commenting?

I started research in SEO forums, and someone suggested Blog Comment Demon

“Submitters, automated softwares, one-click solutions…” these go on and one! During the last few years of my online business adventure, there have been numerous scam emails, pop-ups, ebooks that full of sales pitches trying to sell me softwares.

I did my homework on Blog Comment Demon developed by Edwin Brian, because Edwin offers non-conditional 60 day money back guarantee, I told myself that for 60 days it is long enough for me to try this software, if it’s not something what i am looking for, I will ask for money back! I got nothing to lose!

So I followed the Order Now link, and paid with Paypal. I felt pretty comfortable because they accept PayPal, so in case Edwin ignored my money back request, I will make complaint with PayPal.

I got download link and license key. via email. It was sent to my Paypal email address. I don’t recall any delay in getting the download link and license key.

My machine’s system is on XP, after I downloaded the software Blog Comment Demon; the screen prompts me to install Windows Microsoft Framework 2.0. What??? After checking out the Windows Microsoft Framework 2.0, I downloaded and installed the program. Then I click on blog comment application again, it is opened!

“So good news is you don’t need to run into the usual installation process with Blog Comment Demon; and the bad news is that you have to install Framework 2.0”

Chapter 5. How to use this application?

The welcome email had a link to their video training tutorial, which cover

  • Installation
  • Quick start
  • Blog results
  • Comment Approval Scan
  • Search in depth
  • Bookmarks
  • Manage Projects
  • Import and Export
  • Setting up preferences
  • Future upgrade guide

Because the url is not published by Edwin to the public, so I won’t list it here

Below I include a few videos that produced by myself, and I hope it helps

Suggestion: Don’t spam the blogs

It’s very important that you comment on things that are related with your niche, or blogs that you like to spend some time to read. Please never spam the blogs, the consequence is deadly, because WordPress or other blog plateform are taking blog comment spam seriously, they already have tools to filter and block spammers. One of such tools is Askimet, a wordpress plugin. It is like a public anti-spam database, if many bloggers report you as spam, then it’s very likely that your site will be blacklisted, the result is that your comments will be automatically filtered.

Tips: Other forms of search engine marketing
